Some facts you should know when renting a car in Croatia:
- The minimum age requirement to be eligible to rent a car is 21 years, while some require 25 years.
- You should have the following coverage: Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TF). So make sure the rental rates include this coverage.
- PAI (Personal Accident Insurance) are offered by car rental companies but you can rent the car without this coverage. PAI is an additional insurance which covers the authorized driver(s) and passengers in the hire vehicle for death, disability, and medical expenses.
- Damage Excess Waiver (DEW) or RAD (Ransom of the Amount of Deduction) is also optional. If damage occurs to the car during your rental period and you only have Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), then you will be required to pay a certain amount towards the total repair of the car. Damage Waiver (DEW) covers that amount, giving you full coverage.
- VAT (Value added tax) is 23% in Croatia. So if this is not included in the rates, then you can expect to pay a substantial amount more.
- Unlimited milleage is offered by most rental companies and in many cases already included in the rates. Find out if this is included in your price quote.
- Airport surcharges are sometimes charged by the rental companies. If picking up or dropping off the rental car at the airport, make sure you find out that the rate includes the airport surcharge.
- If you plan on traveling across the border to neighboring countries, then you will need a green slip from the rental company. Inform the car company of your travel plans ahead of time and find out if they charge extra for driving in neighboring countries.
